Classification of Computers based on capacity:-
1. Super Computer:-
The super computers are the fastest and more powerful of all computer systems. They are usually 200 times faster than the mainframes. Super computers are mainly used for applications requiring enormous amount of data to be processed in a very short period. Super computer are high level computers and it used for scientific research, weather-Forecasting and other about future planning.
Seed 100 MIPS and above
Word Length 64-256 bits
Storage Capacity 50 GB-100 TB
It mainly used for Aircraft design Breaking secret codes etc.'
Mainframes Computers:-
A mainframe computer is the largest, fastest and perhaps one of the more expensive computers in use. It has a very large primary storage capacity and have a very high processing speed. They supports a large number of terminals. These and used for solving very complex problem and mostly in industries. It mainly used in complex engine design online communication with large data base etc.
Speed - 5 to 50 MIPS
Word Length - 32 bits 48 bits, 64 bits
Storage Capacity - 20 TB-160 TB
Mini Computer:-
A mini computer resembles a mainframe system except that they are comparatively small less expensive. It was first introduced by Digital Equipment corporation (DEC) in 1965 was developed during third generation. These computers are 5 times faster than computers. It can supports 16 terminals.
Speed - 0.5 MIPS
Word Length - 16 bits - 32 bits
Storage Capacity - 256 KB-5 G.B.
Micro Computers:-
Micro computer are called "Micro" for two reasons. One because the system is miri in size and another, because it was microprocessors. It used commonly in school, Institutes, Banks and many other places. There are three types of micro computers. Personal Computer
PC - Personal Computer
PC/XT - Personal Computer with X-tended Technology
PC/AT - Personal computer with Advance Technology.
